Brett should have been Canadian

Well, once again Brett gets to go to Canada......tomorrow......I'm trying to keep myself composed! Ha ha! It's a quick trip. This time he's going to Red Deer, Alberta which I have no strong connections to, but a few friends (Hello to Lora, Kathryn, Ryanna, Mark, and many others) all live right there, or close by. I'm hoping this time he can find some of my favorite candies (Love Hearts), and bring me back some Tim Horton doughnuts (maybe that wouldn't work). Also some Old Dutch dill pickle chips, and "No Name" peach and raspberry drink, and more Smarties (enough to last me a while)......I'd better stop!

Now I will admit that the time of year isn't the best for travel up there...it gets VERY cold in this area. Usually cars have to be "plugged-in" so the battery doesn't freeze.

Here are some pictures of where Brett is going...I wish he could get a game in while he's up there. One of my favorite teams in right close by!

Canadian...isms

What makes Canada "unique"?

It's quite obvious that people are having a tough time understanding Canadians, so the following will run through a translation of our 'dialect'.

EH = pronounced AY (similar, but not the same as huh). Eh is the basis of all Canadian speaking. The tone or the slight differences in exclamation can change the meaning:
Eh? = what did you say?
Eh? = what do you think?
Ehhhh! = WOW!
Eh?? = your joking!?
EH! = Hello..(you over there!)
Eh? = want a doughnut or some Tim Bits?
Eh! = sure!!
Eh!Eh! = Hot chocolate with that-whip cream too please.
hey..eh! = want to go to the drive-in movie??
Eh...uhuh = yes sure!
Eh..y'know = I'll pick you up at 8:00 (8:30 in Newfoundland).
Eh..cmon!! = that's early..but ok.

Other interesting Canadian terms:
hoser = a good friend.
take off! = you are kidding, no way, fly an airplane.
skates = canadians' first shoes (why we walk funny).
lumberjack = something in our genes.
Newfoundland = pronounced NOOFUNLAN.
Toronto = pronounced Trawna.
Lake Ontario = where all sewers drain into.

So if you hear a Canadian talking like this:"Hey..eh..cmon eh hoser! y'know take off! EH?"...It's very friendly.

Canadian Food:
- Timbits
- Maple syrup pie
- Nanaimo bars
- Butter tarts
- Date squares
- Pablum
- Crispy Crunch bars
- Smarties
- McIntosh toffee bars
- Coffee Crisp
- French Fries with gravy or vinegar

*Lacrosse. Hockey, and Basketball are Canadian.
*Ogopogo is Canadian (a distant and less-famous relative of the Loch Ness Monster is said to still live in Lake Okanagan, B.C.)
*Much Music is better then MTV (maybe).
*Tim Horton's is WAY better then Dunkin Donut's.
*We wear socks (black ones, if possible) with our sandals.
*We knew plaid flannel was cool way before Seattle did.
*We don't often marry our kinfolk.
*The light bulb was actually invented by a Canadian. (Henry Woodward patented it in 1874). Other Canadian inventions include: the jolly jumper, duct tape, insulin, walkie talkies, roller skates, Superman, air-conditioned vehicles, acrylics, standard time (and daylight saving time), the paint-roller, the radio compass, snowmobiles, jet skis, improved zippers, etc.,etc., etc. Not that we're counting.

You know you're Canadian if :
*You stand in "line-ups" or "queues" (in Victoria, BC) at the movie, not lines.
*You're not offended by the term, "Homo Milk".
*You understand the sentence, "Could you please pass me a serviette, I just spilled my maple syrup pie."
*You eat chocolate bars instead of candy bars.
*You drink pop, not soda.
*You talk about the weather with strangers and friends alike.
*When there's a social problem, you turn to the government to fix it, instead of telling them to stay out of it.
*You drive on a highway, not a freeway.
*You know what a Robertson screwdriver is.
*You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers.
*You know that Mounties "don't always look like that."
*You know Casey and Finnegan are not a Celtic musical group.
*You participated in "Participaction."
*You wonder why there isn't a 5 dollar coin yet.
*Like any international assasin/terrorist/spy in the world, you possess a Canadian Passport.
*You fill in the missing 'u's from labor, honor, color, etc., on your non-Canadian textbooks.
*You know the French equivalents of "free", "prize", and "no sugar added", thanks to your extensive education in bilingual cereal packaging.
*You were mad at the CBC when "The Beachcombers" were taken off the air.
*You know what a touque is and you own one and often wear it.
*You have heard of ... and have some cherished momento of Bob and Doug McKenzie.
*You know Toronto is NOT a province.
*You never miss "Coach's Corner" during Hockey Night in Canada.
*If you live in some of the colder Canadian provinces, your car has a cord and plug sticking out of the grill ... it's a block heater for those sub-zero (in Celsius) days.
*You only know three spices: salt, pepper and ketchup.
*You design your Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
*You have more kilometres on your snow blower than your car.
*You've taken your kids trick-or-treating in a blizzard.
*Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled in with frozen snow and slush.
*You think lingerie is tube-socks & a flannel nightie with only 8 buttons.
*The local paper covers national and international headlines on 2 pages, but requires 6 pages for hockey.
*You frequently clean grease off your barbecue so the bears won't prowl on your deck.
*The trunk of your car doubles as a portable deep freeze.
*You know 4 seasons: Winter, Still Winter, Almost Winter & Construction.
*The municipality buys a Zamboni before a bus.
*You perk-up when you hear the theme from "Hockey Night in Canada".
*You pronounce the last letter of the alphabet "zed" instead of "zee."
